Association of exercise training and angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 activator improves baroreflex sensitivity of spontaneously hypertensive rats BJMBR
Lopes,P.R.; Moreira,M.C.S.; Marques,S.M.; Pinto,I.S.J.; Macedo,L.M.; Silva,C.C.; Freiria-Oliveira,A.H.; Rebelo,A.C.S.; Reis,A.A.S.; Rosa,D.A.; Ferreira-Neto,M.L.; Castro,C.H.; Pedrino,G.R..
The present study sought to determine cardiovascular effects of aerobic training associated with diminazene aceturate (DIZE), an activator of the angiotensin converting enzyme 2, in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Male SHRs (280–350 g) were either subjected to exercise training or not (sedentary group). The trained group was subjected to 8 weeks of aerobic training on a treadmill (five times a week, lasting 60 min at an intensity of 50–60% of maximum aerobic speed). In the last 15 days of the experimental protocol, these groups were redistributed into four groups: i) sedentary SHRs with daily treatment of 1 mg/kg DIZE (S+D1); ii) trained SHRs with daily treatment of 1 mg/kg DIZE (T+D1); iii) sedentary SHRs with daily treatment of vehicle (S+V); and...

Beneficial Effects of Exercise Training (Treadmill) on Body Mass and Skeletal Muscle Capillaries/Myocyte Ratio in C57BL/6 Mice Fed High-Fat Diet International Journal of Morphology
Motta,Victor Faria; Mandarim de Lacerda,Carlos Alberto.
C57BL/6 mice develop signals and symptoms comparable at least in part with the metabolic syndrome in humans. This study aimed to evaluate the beneficial effects of exercise training upon skeletal microcirculation in these mice. Animals were fed one of two diets during an eight week period: standard chow (SC) or very high-fat (HF). Afterwards, the exercise training protocol (treadmill) was established and mice divided into SC and HF sedentary (SC-Sed, HF-Sed) or exercised groups (SC-Ex, HF-Ex), respectively. HF/HF-Sed mice had the greatest body mass (plus 65% than SC-Sed; P<0.0001), and exercise reduced it by 23% (P<0.0001). The plasma insulin was higher in the HF-Sed than in the matched Ex (P<0.001). The ratio between capillaries/myocytes in...

Beneficial effects of exercise training (treadmill) on insulin resistance and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in high-fat fed C57BL/6 mice BJMBR
Marques,C.M.M.; Motta,V.F.; Torres,T.S.; Aguila,M.B.; Mandarim-de-Lacerda,C.A..
C57BL/6 mice develop signs and symptoms comparable, in part, to the human metabolic syndrome. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of exercise training on carbohydrate metabolism, lipid profile, visceral adiposity, pancreatic islet alterations, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in C57BL/6 mice. Animals were fed one of two diets during an 8-week period: standard (SC, N = 12) or very high-fat (HF, N = 24) chow. An exercise training protocol (treadmill) was then established and mice were divided into SC and HF sedentary (SC-Sed, HF-Sed), exercised groups (SC-Ex, HF-Ex), or switched from HF to SC (HF/SC-Sed and HF/SC-Ex). HF/HF-Sed mice had the greatest body mass (65% more than SC/SC-Sed; P < 0.0001), and exercise reduced it by...

Blood lactate threshold reflects glucose responses in horses submitted to incremental exercise test Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Ferraz,G.C.; D’Angelis,F.H.F.; Teixeira-Neto,A.R.; Freitas,E.V.V.; Lacerda-Neto,J.C.; Queiroz-Neto,A..

Cardiorespiratory adaptations induced by aerobic training in middle-aged men: the importance of a decrease in sympathetic stimulation for the contribution of dynamic exercise tachycardia BJMBR
Chacon-Mikahil,M.P.T.; Forti,V.A.M.; Catai,A.M.; Szrajer,J.S.; Golfetti,R.; Martins,L.E.B.; Lima-Filho,E.C.; Wanderley,J.S.; Marin-Neto,J.A.; Maciel,B.C.; Gallo-Jr.,L..
We investigated the effects of aerobic training on the efferent autonomic control of heart rate (HR) during dynamic exercise in middle-aged men, eight of whom underwent exercise training (T) while the other seven continued their sedentary (S) life style. The training was conducted over 10 months (three 1-h sessions/week on a field track at 70-85% of the peak HR). The contribution of sympathetic and parasympathetic exercise tachycardia was determined in terms of differences in the time constant effects on the HR response obtained using a discontinuous protocol (4-min tests at 25, 50, 100 and 125 watts on a cycle ergometer), and a continuous protocol (25 watts/min until exhaustion) allowed the quantification of the parameters (anaerobic threshold, VO2 AT;...

Effect of aerobic training on EEG alpha asymmetry and depressive symptoms in the elderly: a 1-year follow-up study BJMBR
Deslandes,A.C.; Moraes,H.; Alves,H.; Pompeu,F.A.M.S.; Silveira,H.; Mouta,R.; Arcoverde,C.; Ribeiro,P.; Cagy,M.; Piedade,R.A.M.; Laks,J.; Coutinho,E.S.F..
The effect of physical exercise on the treatment of depressive elderly adults has not been investigated thus far in terms of changes in cortical hemispheric activity. The objective of the present study was to identify changes in depressive symptoms, quality of life, and cortical asymmetry produced by aerobic activity. Elderly subjects with a diagnosis of major depressive disorder (DSM-IV) were included. Twenty patients (70% females, 71 ± 3 years) were divided into an exercise group (pharmacological treatment plus aerobic training) and a control group (undergoing pharmacological treatment) in a quasi-experimental design. Pharmacological treatment was maintained stable throughout the study (antidepressants and anxiolytics). Subjects were evaluated by...

The Effect of the Aerobic Training on Morphological and Histochemical Characteristics of Tibial Anterior Muscle in Rats Fed with High Fat Diet International Journal of Morphology
Ciabattari,O; Dâmaso,A. R; Dal Pai,V; Dal-Pai-Silva,M; Freitas Jr,I. F.
The aim of this study was to investígate the effect of high fat diet and different frequencies of swimming programs in the tibial anterior muscle in male Wistar rats. In conclussion, the aerobic training during two days/week and five days/week caused injuries in muscle fibers and the high fat diet did not cause statically significant results compared to normal diet.
